SEND
Sir Thomas Fremantle School is committed to ensuring that all students achieve their full potential and to helping them to develop into well rounded, confident individuals who are able to fulfil their role as positive members of their local community and the wider society. The school aims to be inclusive and provide an equality of opportunity for all students, irrespective of ability or disability.
At STFS, our SEND department is led by our SENDCo, Fiona Ell, who has overall responsibility for co-ordinating SEND provision. Fiona oversees the day-to-day application and operation of our SEND policy and implements the cycle of action in relation to SEND.
Fiona is supported by our Inclusion Manager, Harriet Bartley. With a specialist interest in Speech and Language, Harriet liaises with other professionals and outside agencies to ensure that students’ therapy and support needs are met. She also oversees our programme of interventions and 1:1 support.
Fiona and Harriet can be contacted via: sendco@sirthomasfremantle.org they will aim to respond to your emails within two working days of receipt.
Fiona and Harriet work alongside our Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) whose classroom support is given, as a priority, to students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The LSA team consists of:
Ms Parker
Ms Manning
Whilst each LSA has a specialist subject link, they are all competent to support across the curriculum and lead on intervention groups.
Students identified as requiring SEND support may have access to Learning Support Assistants and other agencies as appropriate/necessary, but it is expected that the majority of needs that do not require an EHCP will be met and addressed through a broad, differentiated curriculum. Our fundamental provision for students with SEND is the provision of high-quality, differentiated teaching in small classes, allowing better access to 1-1 specialist teacher input.
