Unit Award Scheme (AQA)

Why study UAS?

UAS was developed by the SENCO to offer a more tailored life skills programme to vulnerable students at STFS. You cannot “choose” UAS as an option however, you could be invited to study it in replacement of the PSHE programme once a week. The UAS rotates between vocational courses and academic support on a half termly basis. The UAS offers accredited certificates for each module that is passed and is entirely evidence based. This does mean, no exam, no coursework just turn up and do as instructed and certificates are yours!

What does the course involve?

The course rotates vocational and academic support. Vocational skills might be horticulture, volunteering, cooking, life skills, social skills etc. Academic support might be money (maths), reading for pleasure (English) or even foundational skills in humanities or languages! There are thousands of courses to choose from and we tailor the curriculum every year to be broad and balanced whilst meeting the needs of that specific group.

It’s low pressure, lots of fun and really rewarding.

How will the skills that I develop help me in my future career?

The UAS is so unique, you could even do a certificate in something specific that you might like to pursue as a career in the future and add this to your CV or college application!

Overall however, the course is entirely based around building confidence which will help you get the best out of all situations in the future.

How will I be assessed?

Evidence based means we sign you off, take photos of your work and that is it!
