Rationale

At KS3, it is important that we build on the skills students have been developing at KS2 as well as fostering a confident fluency in reading.

Our aim is to share with students as many different types of writing that we can so that they can become familiar with a range of styles of writing. We use the foundation of KS4 assessment objectives in order to measure the progress of students throughout their study.

At KS4, we aim to offer students the opportunity to apply the skills from KS3 to the GCSE set texts. We consider a set of transferable skills (analytical, critical, evaluative, comparative) and teach literature and language texts discreetly in order to further progress these skills.

We use non-fiction unseen texts to offer a range of authors and time-periods.

The assessment objectives are used here explicitly both in formative/summative assessment and in modelling and scaffolding writing.
