Art & Design

Rationale

Within the Art and Design curriculum we aim to introduce and develop a range of skills that can be built upon as our students ascend through the school. Each year we revisit and build upon skill sets that are aimed to widen our students knowledge of artistic materials and processes, whilst introducing them to a variety of creative inspiration.

Students have the opportunity to explore painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking as they explore a range of topics and artists throughout history. Projects are designed to educate students about our artistic heritage, widen cultural awareness and give insight into potential future career paths.

Within Design Technology, we focus on providing students with a range of practical skills to serve them as they develop into adults.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their cooking skills in Food Technology and deepen their knowledge of healthy eating and nutrition.  Textiles offers students the chance to discover how fabric is produced from fibre, before getting hands on and creating their own art textile pieces. Students will be introduced to, and practice hand and machine sewing skills, focusing on construction and embellishment.

At Key Stage 4, students are given the opportunity to study Digital Photography. Within our photography curriculum, students learn to look at the every day from a different view point, develop knowledge of studio lighting and explore editing programs and processes. We work with students to develop individual projects, that are inspired and driven by their interests and passions.
