Upcoming Reading Assessment: New Group Reading Test (NGRT)
We would like to inform parents and carers that students will be sitting the New Group Reading Test (NGRT) on Thursday 18th September. This assessment will take place in year groups in the exam hall and forms an important part of how we monitor and support reading development across the school.
To help the test run smoothly, please ensure the following:
Students bring their fully charged laptops on the day.
If your child uses a coloured overlay to support their reading, they should bring it with them.
If your child has headphones compatible with their laptop, they are encouraged to bring them. Instructions at the start of the test will be both on-screen and read aloud. However, headphones are not essential.
We ask all students to approach the assessment seriously, as the data collected will inform targeted reading interventions and, where appropriate, access arrangements for future tests and exams.
The test typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, but the full lesson will be allocated to allow for a smooth process and any technical issues. Students are encouraged to bring a reading book to use quietly once they have completed the test.
Following the assessment, we will share your child’s reading age with you. If we feel additional support may be beneficial, we will be in touch to discuss next steps.
Thank you for your continued support.
