Rationale

Media Studies is studied here at Sir Thomas Fremantle School at GCSE. We follow the Eduqas/WJEC exam board specification.

The sequencing of our GCSE course enables students to develop a wider understanding of media across many periods of history. Allows students to appreciate the role and impact of media in their lives and the wider society. In addition to this, it also allows students to delve into their creative skills where they will apply their academic knowledge in creating an original media product.

This course specifically allows students to develop their resilience through critical thinking, exercise their empathy through understanding different genres and the audience impact as well as the following key skills:

  • Creative Thinking

  • Media Analysis

  • Textual Analysis

  • Communication

  • Research skills

  • Literacy

  • Technical competencies
