Spectroscopy in a Suitcase

Sir Thomas Fremantle was visited by some of the finest minds at Oxford University and the Royal Society of Chemistry
On Friday 7th June Sir Thomas Fremantle hosted an event in conjunction with Oxford University and the Royal Society of Chemistry entitled ‘Spectroscopy in a Suitcase’. Students were able to get hands on experience with an infra-red spectrometer and run analytical samples on a range of organic chemicals. The spectrometer alone was worth £10,000! The PhD research students commentated on how well STFS students did, particularly the Year 10 group who have not studied much organic chemistry yet but by the end of the session were drawing skeletal formula and identifying functional groups. Well done all!
