Hot Weather Arrangements for Next Week

Hot Weather Arrangements for Next Week

With the temperatures forecast to rise next week, we have put some temporary uniform adaptations in place to help students remain comfortable throughout the school day.

On Monday 22nd June and Tuesday 23rd June, students may attend school in either:

  • Full PE kit, or

  • Full school uniform without a tie or blazer.

We will review the weather conditions on Tuesday evening and provide an update regarding arrangements for the remainder of the week.

Students should bring a filled water bottle to school each day. Water refill stations are available for use during break and lunchtime.

We also recommend that suncream is applied before school and that students bring a hat if they wish to wear one during social times.

Over the May half-term break, UV film was installed on all south-facing windows to help reduce solar glare and lower classroom temperatures.

Break and lunchtime remain limited to 35 minutes. Should we find that there is insufficient shade available outside, students will be directed indoors. As always, students have access to Wynne and the canteen during social times.

Thank you for your support and we hope everyone enjoys the sunny weekend ahead.

Thank you!

Last Friday, students and staff took part in our annual 10-mile Sponsored Walk, enjoying beautiful weather and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, spend time outdoors and demonstrate the resilience, determination and positive attitude that we are so proud to see at Sir Thomas Fremantle School. It was particularly pleasing to see students supporting and encouraging one another along the route, helping to create a real sense of community and teamwork.

The walk is raising money for a number of worthwhile causes and projects, including the RSPCA, our school allotment and outdoor learning areas, and future initiatives chosen by our Student Council. We are absolutely thrilled to have raised over £3000!

We would like to thank all of the staff, volunteers and cadets who helped make the event such a success, as well as everyone who has already sponsored our walkers.

If you would still like to make a donation, it is not too late. Every contribution is greatly appreciated and will help support these valuable projects and opportunities for our students.

Thank you for helping our students make a positive impact both within our school and beyond.

A Colourful Success!

We were delighted to host our very first STFS Colour Run – and what an incredible event it turned out to be! The students were absolutely brilliant. They threw themselves into the experience with enthusiasm, resilience and huge amounts of joy. Whether they were sprinting through the course or enjoying every colourful moment along the way, their positivity made the event truly special.

To make it even better, the sun shone down on us all day, creating the perfect backdrop for such a vibrant and exciting activity. The combination of bright colours, happy faces, and beautiful weather made it a day to remember.

We managed to raise close to £1000 towards our new football goals which is a great achievement. A huge well done to everyone who took part and helped make our first Colour Run such a success. We’re already looking forward to next year's one!

Face Painting at Sports Day!

Show your House pride with a splash of colour at this year's Sports Day on Thursday 2nd July.

Miss Jenkins will be running a face-painting stall throughout the day, offering a range of House-themed designs and colours to help students support their teams in style.

As well as looking the part, you'll be helping to raise money for the school, so why not get involved and add some extra colour to the occasion?

Designs are available from 50p to £1.

Cash only.

Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents – Information for Parents

We have been asked by Thames Valley Police to share the attached information sheet with parents and carers. The guidance explains what hate crimes and non-crime hate incidents are, how they are recorded, and the different ways concerns can be reported.

We encourage families to take a few moments to read the information and discuss it with their child. Together, we can help ensure that all members of our community feel safe, respected and included.

Can You Help Our Preloved Uniform Shop?

As another Year 11 cohort prepares to move on to their next adventure, many families may find themselves with school uniform that is no longer needed.

We would be very grateful for any donations of clean, good-quality uniform items for our preloved uniform shop. Your donation could make a real difference to another family and help ensure that affordable uniform remains available to all students.

Donations can be dropped off at school reception at any time.

All proceeds from the Preloved Uniform Shop are reinvested directly into student-led projects and initiatives through the Student Council.

Thank you for your support.

Ice Lollies for New Football Goals

We are continuing our fundraising efforts this half term to raise money for new football goals. Sports Ambassadors will be selling ice lollies on the playground every Thursday lunchtime until the end of term.

Support Our Future Football Stars!

At STFS we’re passionate about giving our students every opportunity to shine — both in the classroom and on the pitch. But right now, our football teams are facing a big challenge: we need football goals and team kits.

Our pupils show much determination and love for the game. They are currently training without full size football goals and without the pride of pulling on a school kit. We don’t want this to be a barrier to enjoying the sport they love, developing their skills, and building the confidence that comes from being part of a team. That’s where you come in. We are reaching out to our wonderful local community for sponsorships and donations to help us purchase:

  • Full-size football goals

  • A set of school football kits for both our boys and girls teams

How you can help:

  • Make a donation (no matter how small, every bit helps!)

  • Become a sponsor and have your business logo proudly displayed on our kits

  • Spread the word to others who may be able to support

To get involved, please contact abi.haynes@sirthomasfremantle.org or visit our gofundme page to make a donation

Thank you for helping us invest in the next generation — both on and off the pitch!

Raise funds when you shop online

Friends of Sir Thomas Fremantle School (FOSTFS), our PTA, have set up Easyfundraising as a simple way for families to help raise funds to support the school, at no extra cost to you.

Easyfundraising works with hundreds of well-known retailers. When you start your shopping through their website or app, the retailer donates a percentage of what you spend to FOSTFS, who then use these funds to benefit the school. You pay the same price you would normally pay.

Extra bonus for February
For a limited time, Easyfundraising is offering an additional £2 donation for every new person who signs up in February and selects Friends of Sir Thomas Fremantle School as their chosen cause. This bonus is paid on top of anything raised through shopping, making this a great time to get involved and encourage friends and family to sign up too.

Where it has the biggest impact
Easyfundraising can be used for everyday shopping, but the largest donations come from higher-value purchases. With holiday booking season underway, this is a particularly effective time to get involved.

  • Examples of high-value purchases include:

  • Holidays, flights and hotels

  • Insurance renewals such as home, car or travel

  • Mobile phone upgrades or new contracts

  • Laptops, tablets and other technology

  • Furniture, white goods or home improvement items

  • Broadband, TV or energy provider switches

Before you buy
If you’re about to make a purchase, please take a moment to check Easyfundraising first. It only takes a few seconds and can make a meaningful difference to the funds raised by FOSTFS for the school.

Thank you for supporting Friends of Sir Thomas Fremantle and helping to enhance opportunities for our students through such a simple action.

Homework Support

Homework plays an important role in supporting students’ learning and progress. Regular, purposeful homework helps pupils build self-discipline, time management and resilience, while reinforcing learning from the classroom.

To support students in developing effective study habits, a range of homework support sessions are available each week. These sessions offer a quiet, structured space with subject staff available to support students where needed. Parents and carers are encouraged to support their child in attending these sessions if they feel additional help or structure would be beneficial.

Homework Support Sessions

Maths in Fibonacci - Monday after school, Thursday lunchtime

English, Film Studies & Classics (KS3) in Duffy - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime

Science in Feynman - Tuesday lunchtime

French & Spanish in Truffaut - Monday after school

Art & DT in Westwood - Wednesday lunchtime

Humanities in Attenborough - Thursday after school

Parents and carers can view and track homework through the Arbor Parent App, including tasks set, due dates and submission status. Support with accessing Arbor is available via the school office.

Thank you for your continued support in encouraging students to complete homework to a high standard and on time.

Contacting the Right Person – Help Us Help You Faster!

We know how important it is for parents and carers to get timely responses to queries and concerns. While our main office inbox is always monitored and messages will be passed on, contacting the relevant staff member directly can often lead to a quicker response.

To make things easier:

🔹 Check our guide on who to contact depending on your concern:
👉 Who to Talk to If You Have a Concern

🔹 Find staff email addresses in our Staff Directory:
👉 Staff Directory

🔹 Reporting a Student Absence?
Please email absence@sirthomasfremantle.org directly.
We recommend saving this address in your contacts to make reporting quick and easy.

A quick reminder: our teaching staff spend their days in the classroom with students, so they may not be able to respond to emails immediately. We have a 48-hour response policy and aim to reply to all enquiries within this timeframe - though it’s often much quicker.

Thank you for helping us streamline communication — it really does make a difference.

PE Clubs

You can view all of our after-school clubs and book a place for your child through the Arbor Parent App. Please note that students cannot attend after-school clubs unless permission has been given via Arbor.
For lunch clubs, students should sign up directly with the club lead.
